Fujifilm Medical (formerly known for its Fujinon endoscope line) is the third major global manufacturer of endoscopes alongside Olympus and Pentax. In 2018, it launched the ELUXEO platform — an HD endoscopy system with an LED light source that eliminates the xenon bulb and its associated maintenance cost. In Colombia, ELUXEO is the fastest-growing alternative for institutions seeking quality comparable to Olympus at a lower total cost of ownership.
1. Fujifilm Medical — from photography to cutting-edge endoscopy
Fujifilm Corporation (Tokyo, Japan) is known worldwide for its history in photography and precision imaging. This expertise in optics and image processing is the foundation of its medical division — Fujifilm Medical — which manufactures endoscopes, endoscopy systems, digital mammography equipment, radiology equipment, and diagnostic imaging systems. Fujifilm endoscopes have historically been known as "Fujinon" — the name of its optics division — and the term is still used in the market even though the corporate brand is Fujifilm Medical.

💻
EPX-7000 processor
The brain of the ELUXEO system. It processes the signal from the endoscope's CCD sensor and generates the HD image on the monitor. It integrates BLI and LCI algorithms for enhanced imaging. Compatible only with endoscopes from the ELUXEO line. Compact dimensions — it can be integrated into a tower or installed independently. DICOM connectivity for integration with PACS and HIS systems.
→ HD 1080p · BLI + LCI · DICOM · Only ELUXEO endoscopes
💡
LED light source (integrated into EPX-7000)
The major innovation of ELUXEO: the LED light source is integrated within the EPX-7000 unit itself — it is not a separate module like the Olympus CLV-190 xenon light source. The LED has an estimated lifespan of over 30,000 hours — practically the entire life of the equipment — eliminating the xenon bulb replacement cost, which amounts to USD 300–600 every 500 hours of use in conventional systems.
→ >30,000 h lifespan · No replacement · Integrated into EPX-7000
🖥️
High-definition medical monitor
ELUXEO requires a certified 27" medical monitor at minimum to utilize the system's HD resolution. Fujifilm offers its own 27" and 32" monitors with anti-glare treatment for surgical environments. Also compatible with monitors from other brands if they meet the color and resolution requirements.
→ 27"–32" · Anti-glare · Compatible with third-party brands
📼
Documentation and recording system
The EPX-7000 connects to the endoscopic documentation system to record the procedure video, capture images, and generate the report. Compatible with Fujifilm's ENDOBASE endoscopic reporting software or with third-party systems that accept HDMI/DICOM signals.
→ HD Video · Captures · ENDOBASE · DICOM
3. BLI and LCI — Fujifilm's enhanced imaging technologies
🔵
BLI — Blue Light Imaging
BLI uses the high-power blue LED light from the integrated light source to illuminate the mucosa with the wavelength that is preferentially absorbed by hemoglobin. The result is similar to Olympus NBI: superficial vessels and mucosal capillaries become visible with high contrast, revealing the vascular pattern that indicates dysplasia or early neoplasia. 2023 meta-analyses (Guo et al.) show that BLI is non-inferior to NBI for the detection of colorectal adenomas. BLI is activated with a button on the endoscope head.
→ Same efficacy as NBI in colon · Non-inferior (Cochrane 2023)
🌈
LCI — Linked Color Imaging (Fujifilm exclusive)
LCI is exclusive to Fujifilm — it has no equivalent in Olympus EVIS EXERA III or standard Pentax. It is a digital processing algorithm that amplifies subtle color differences in the mucosa — especially the red of active inflammation and erythema. It makes visible color differences that the human eye cannot distinguish in conventional white light. Key applications: H. pylori diagnosis by mucosal pattern, reflux esophagitis, active colitis. Studies from 2022–2024 show that LCI improves H. pylori detection with 87% sensitivity vs 74% with white light.

5. The Real LED Advantage — How Much You Save in 10 Years
LED vs Xenon Savings Calculation over 10 Years of Use A CLV-190 xenon light source requires bulb replacement every ~500 hours. An endoscopy service with 8 procedures daily accumulates ~2,000 hours annually → 4 bulb replacements per year → USD 400/bulb → USD 1,600/year → USD 16,000 in 10 years, on bulbs alone. ELUXEO with an integrated LED light source completely eliminates this expense. If you add the more affordable initial price of ELUXEO compared to EVIS EXERA III, the total savings in 10 years can be USD 20,000–25,000 in a high-demand service — enough to acquire 2–3 additional endoscopes.
6. Frequently Asked Questions
Do older Fujinon endoscopes work with the ELUXEO processor?
No. The ELUXEO platform (EPX-7000) is incompatible with previous-generation Fujinon endoscopes (600 series and earlier). The connector and communication protocol are different. If your institution has previous-generation Fujinon endoscopes, you will need new endoscopes from the ELUXEO line to use the EPX-7000. This is a critical point when planning the platform upgrade investment.
Is ELUXEO compatible with accessories from other brands?
Regarding endoscopic accessories (biopsy forceps, snares, clips, needles), ELUXEO is compatible with 2.8 mm or 3.7 mm accessories from any manufacturer that are inserted through the endoscope's working channel — including accessories from Olympus, Boston Scientific, and Cook Medical. Accessories have no brand compatibility restriction — they must only fit the diameter of the endoscope's working channel.
